Swedish House Mafia Says They Produced 6 Songs in 2 Days with Fred Again..

Swedish House Mafia and Fred Again..’s real-life crossover was just as incredible as the songs they released together, according to the DJ/producer group powerhouse.

Swedish House Mafia sat down for an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music to celebrate the release of their debut album, ‘Paradise Again’ in the spring of last year. In the interview, they discussed everything from their hometown in Sweden, to inspiration and the creative process, to working with mega-talented artists like The Weeknd and Fred Again..

Sebastian Ingrosso said, “We started to work with this guy called Fred Again. Actually, Steve [Angello] sent me his song, like a year ago or something, two years, I don’t remember. But I was like, who is this guy? This is amazing! He makes music on the streets, like recording people, I’m like wow…”

The interviewer candidly reminded Ingrosso that Fred Again produces for Ed Sheeran. Ingrosso responded that he knew about “Fred” but didn’t quite put the two and two together–this producer Fred he knew of was the same DJ, Fred Again.., rising to seemingly overnight international DJ stardom after his solo project began taking off on an astronomical level.

Ingrosso says that Fred, although a big fan, was hesitant to work with the group, speculating that it could be due to remembering Swedish House Mafia from their “Don’t You Worry Child” days. Fred Again.. is about as innovative as it gets on the modern DJ and production front. So how would his fresh new sound mix with Swedish House Mafia’s old-school, big-room energy?

Well, the only way to find out was to try. According to Ingrosso, Fred hopped on a plane to Sweden to spend three days in the studio with the trio. The real kicker was when Fred settled into the studio with them, and said he was going to make a song in just 35 minutes. “I can’t even make coffee in 35 minutes,” commented Ingrosso. “We made like, six songs in two days.”

The group went on to explain how magnificent the energy between the four of them was. One of the tracks, “Calling On” made the album. Another song, which we later learned was “Turn On The Lights” was released by Fred Agiain.. as a single.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
