Who is Marshmello, the DJ?

From headlining festivals and huge collaborations, Marshmello is an industry name but who is behind is the mastermind behind the helmet?

Marshmello is an artist many people know and love in the music industry. I mean who wouldn’t be even a little interested in a DJ wearing a marshmallow helmet? With his chart-topping tracks and that iconic marshmallow helmet, he captivates music listeners worldwide. But, behind the helmet, do we really know who is Marshmello DJ?

Back in 2015, DJ Marshmello took the electronic dance industry by storm. His release of huge tracks like “Alone” and “Keep It Mello,” quickly gained notoriety. However, his commitment to anonymity certainly added to his mysteriousness. Taking notes from another well-known helmet-wearing DJ, Deadmau5, Marshmello made a name for himself without ever showing his face. Definitely solidifying himself as one of the most fascinating figures in the industry.

It is said that Marshmello actually took inspiration from the legendary electronic music producer Deadmau5, who also uses an alternate spelling for his stage name and performs wearing a “dead mouse” mascot head. To this day, the marshmallow helmet has become Marshmello’s trademark. The helmet allows fans to focus solely on the music while emphasizing the idea that it’s the music that truly matters.

Through high-profile collaborations with artists like Khalid, Anne-Marie, and Bastille, Marshmello continues to grow. His chart-topping track like “Happier,” featuring Bastille, became an instant hit and showcased Marshmello’s versatility as a producer. He has also produced hit singles like “Wolves” featuring Selena Gomez and “Friends,” which have cemented his status in the industry.

Over the years, DJ Marshmello pulled off plenty of helmet-revealing pranks on fans. At EDC Las Vegas 2016, Tiesto appeared from under the mask during Marshmello’s performance and again in 2018 during the IHeartRadio Music Awards when Shawn Mendes revealed himself. But, regardless of the pranks throughout the years, fans made some conspiracies about who is behind the big white helmet. The rumored man behind the mask is none other than Christopher Comstock, also known as DJ and producer Dotcom.

Although it is no secret to many that Dotcom is the man behind Marshmello we can appreciate his craft. Dotcom focused on a hard dubstep and trap musical style. While today, Marshmello focuses on a more pop musical style. His choice to make this switch truly elevated his career. Today DJ Marshmello remains a driving force and headliner for many festivals around the world. Everyone’s favorite marshmallow helmet DJ continues to rise. So, we are sure to keep seeing him at many events. Whether he remains under this helmet or comes out as Dotcom, we are here to support him! My name is Emilee Gabbard. I currently live in sunny Orange County, CA. By day I am a project manager working in the aerospace industry, but by night a music blogger for yours truly, Exron Music! I have been writing for Exron Music for around eight months now and cannot wait to see what is to come throughout the years. At festivals and clubs, you will find me at any house and techno stage supporting my favorites Eli Brown or Dom Dolla, or belting every word to Porter Robinson tracks wherever he performs.
