Drew Taggart “In Love” With Girlfriend Marianne Fonseca as he Opens Up About Relationship in “Cringe” Post

The Chainsmokers’ new single “Summertime Friends” was inspired by Drew Taggart’s relationship with new girlfriend Marianne Fonseca.

The Chainsmokers released their latest track “Summertime Friends” this week and Drew Taggart revealed that the song was inspired by his girlfriend Marianne Fonseca. He shared a sweet post on Instagram, calling it “cringe but important” as he goes on to detail how he got acquainted with her.

In the lengthy post, he confessed, “I fell in love with this girl named Mari last spring which you probably know by now if you if you’ve been following this page for the last 6 months. We had known each other in passing for a couple years but never had a substantial conversation. She said hi to me at the bar where I was stuck making small talk with a couple I didn’t really know. She looked so beautiful, way out of my league, and in my memory, a foot taller than me.”

He continued, “We stepped aside and ended up talking way too long and far too deeply for this type of party. She told me about her family, her ambitions, and that she didn’t believe true love existed. It was laughable how much we had in common. I remember thinking ‘how has it taking this long for us to talk?’ I think I knew then that we were supposed to be together.”

Going on to share that “Summertime Friends” was written a few weeks after they started hanging out and he was in a studio in New York City, Drew revealed that “I love writing about small moments especially ones with tension like this. I hope it makes you feel something.” The upbeat song was released together with a music video, captured with a nostalgic VHS style and directed by Spencer Miller. The visual tells a story that complements the narrative of the song, depicting key moments in Drew Taggart’s relationship with Marianne and evoking a sense of introspection and emotion in the audience.
