RL Grime Explains Inspiration Behind Upcoming Album

RL Grime releases the first single of his upcoming album “PLAY” And shares with fans the inspiration behind his latest project. 

RL Grime has dropped his newest single “Around Me,” giving fans a taste of his upcoming album PLAY coming September 15th. The album will be made up of three separate parts – APEX, GRID, and RUSH.

“Around Me” is the first single that represents the sound of RUSH. It is meant to take on more of an experimental direction for the artist. In this portion of the album, RL Grime explores sounds of deep house, future breaks, and techno like never before. 

This track was composed early on in the process of the album and is said to have set the tone for what RUSH would become. In an Instagram post, RL Grime shared that this part of the album ignited his return to his roots in house, breaks, garage, techno, and more. He explained that those genres are what, “got [him] into dance music in the first place.”

RL Grime revealed to fans that he was initially hesitant to release this project because it has such a clear distinction from his old projects. “It was important for me to create a space where I can explore those genres and have it make sense contextually,” he wrote.

RL Grime will drop one more single from the upcoming album before its release in September. As of now, we do not know when the new track will be released. RL Grime has also released a filmed and recorded mix of RUSH which is out now.

The upcoming album is said to be a “revolutionary new format” for the artist. This album will be a reflection of his signature sound that the influential trap producer has created over the years. Make sure to stream “Around Me” below and check RL Grimes on tour using this link here.
