The Chainsmokers Play Hit Single “Selfie” for the First Time in 8 Years

The Chainsmokers played their major throwback song live for the first time in about eight years.

The EDM-pop duo released “Selfie” as a single almost a decade ago in 2014 and have not played it live in a while with their other songs gaining more attention since then. But The Chainsmokers brought “Selfie” back to life recently while playing in the club and it was a hit just like it was back in the day.

The Chainsmokers took to Instagram to share the moment when they re-dropped “Selfie” and captioned the video “The world is healing.” The duo’s Drew Taggart grabbed the mic in the video and said: “Sometimes you have to go back to where you started” and Alex Pall stayed on the decks.

Drew then started to hype up the song some more and said: “So, we stopped playing this song like 8 years ago, but I think I’m gonna start playing it again.” Along with “If you’re an OG Chainsmokers fan make some noise.”

“Selfie” was released before The Chainsmokers hit songs “Closer” and “Roses” which made it go more unnoticed now due to those two songs taking off so much after. Drew pointed this out before playing the song in the video and said: “Yeah like before ‘Closer’ and s**t” and “No no no but like before ‘Roses’ and s**t. Make some noise.”

The song is a bit chaotic and goes like this: “That girl is such a fake model, she definitely bought all her Instagram followers. Who goes out on Monday? Ok, let’s go take some shots. Oh no, I feel like I’m going to throw up. Oh, wait never mind I’m fine. Let’s go dance. There’s no vodka at this table. Do you know anyone else here? Jason just texted me, should I go home with him? But first, let me take a selfie.”

Someone in the comments noted that: “This song was a decade ahead of its time.” It seems as if The Chainsmokers and their fans may feel the same way. This could mean that “Selfie” will be making a comeback overall.

I remember hearing Edm for the first time and thinking I knew this type of music would change my life. I love all genres and the art that goes behind it all. You can catch me dancing to a wide range of tunes.
