Electro-Soul Star Maddy O’Neal Reveals “Woofer” her “Heaviest Song Yet” From Upcoming EP

Maddy O’Neal has dropped her heaviest track yet, “Woofer,” complete with Cleva Thoughts’ contagious hook and rattling bass.

The producer has teased “Woofer” during her live sets, blending it into her groovy and intriguing setlists. “Woofer” comes after the release of “Free Yourself,” the debut single off of her upcoming EP, ‘Mind Over Matter,’ and previews of other tracks from the record. As well as focusing on the style and soundscape of her music, Maddy O’Neal revealed that she is also thinking about how it will translate to live sets.

“Woofer” begins with O’Neal’s wonky bass riffs complimenting Cleva Thoughts’ contagious flow. The rapper lays down the hook, “Woofer!,” beckoning even-deeper frequencies paired with high hats and tempo changes.

When reflecting on the single, she said, “This is possibly the heaviest song I’ve ever made. The title refers to a subwoofer, which sets the tone for the whole track in general. I wanted to capture the feeling of being in a room when that sub hits you in the chest and takes over the moment…that visceral moment where music hits you in a physical form.”

She noted the importance that she finds in the physical connection between people and music and the ways that bass plays into that relationship. “Woofer” explores deep, vibrational frequencies and dominant kick drums, taking the producer’s style in a different direction. With the drop of “Woofer,” ‘Mind Over Matter’ is set to show off the producer’s evolution of sound.

Maddy O’Neal has been bringing fresh takes on electro-soul for seven years, playing iconic festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. With support from impactful artists like GRiZ, Pretty Lights, and Big Gigantic, she is always pushing the boundaries of genres.

O’Neal is hitting the road for the next few months, playing the Friendzy Festival, Secret Dreams, North Coast, and more. While we wait for her newest EP to be released, listen to its second single, “Woofer,” here:
