Alesso Taught Zac Efron How to DJ for ‘We Are Your Friends’ Movie

Renowned Swedish producer and house music DJ Alesso makes his way from all-time festival stages to Hollywood’s big screen to teach Zac Efron his DJ skills.

In the year 2015, Zac Efron, a renowned actor recognized from previous films such as ‘The Greatest Showman’ and ‘Dirty Grandpa’, starred in the 2015 drama/ romance film ‘We Are Your Friends’, directed by Max Joseph. The film’s plot is centered around a young Cole Carter (Zac Efron), whose dreams of becoming a disc jockey take unexpected turns once he met James Reed (Wes Bentley), a charismatic and popular DJ who takes Zac Efron’s character under his wing to learn how to become a DJ.

The film grossed a total amount of 11.1 million dollars at the U.S. box office and in other territories. ‘We Are Your Friends’ is now recognized as a popular film that explores topics such as electronic dance music, the music industry, and the pop culture of the emerging music genre.

Funny fact, did you know that Alesso was not the only DJ featured as a cameo in the film ‘We Are Your Friends’ starring Zac Efron? Popular cameos were featured in the rated-R film such as Dillon Francis, Nicky Romero, and Dirty South.

In the film, Alesso plays himself and explains to Zac Efron’s character, “There’s a lot of things to think about to become a DJ.”  He teaches Cole how to introduce and mix in the next track while observing and controlling the crowd’s vibe in order to match the energy.

Each year, electronic music continues to rise in the music industry, with famous producers such as Diplo collaborating with Hollywood on movie and TV soundtracks such as Teen Wolf, Entourage, and ‘You’re Not You’. Other famous producers such as Skrillex and Daft Punk have made their way into Hollywood by creating musical scores on movie soundtracks.
