Honey Dijon Joins YouTube Black Voices Fund with Music Video for “Don’t Be Afraid”

Honey Dijon drops a music video to benefit black artists.

The critically acclaimed artist Honey Dijon, best known for her Grammy-winning contributions to Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ album, recently released a music video for her original song ‘Don’t Be Afraid.’ The music video stars fellow artist and collaborator LATASHÁ and was directed by Coerce Smith, artistically known as Cor.Ece. This music video’s debut marked the second of three releases from Honey and Cor.Ece. The duo announced that all three would directly benefit the YouTube Black Voices Fund, which was created in 2020 to champion the stories and careers of black artists, producers, songwriters, and creators.

When speaking on the production, Cor.Ece attributed many of his artistic choices to inspiration from visual artist Aleksandra Waliszewska, whose provocative and sometimes sexual works truly left a mark on Cor.Ece. “I really [wanted] people to imagine what a muse would do beyond posing for a picture,” ruminated Cor.Ece.

When discussing the work, he also spoke highly of LATASHÁ, whose performance he described as “effortlessly large” and “enticing.” Cor.Ece also shared the deeper throughline of the piece: the music video’s thesis implored its audience to embrace their “own power and strength inside,” to not shy away from it, but rather to explore it and lean into it.

LATASHÁ, New York artist and founder of the Zoratopia collective had wonderful things to say about collaborating with Honey Dijon. “I’m honored to have an incredible creation with the muva Honey Dijon,” she gushed. “The song is a powerful force, written for the people to stay true to their power and on their course. Beating to the rhythm for the heart, I am so excited for the world to feel this record.”

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
