Armin Van Buuren Brings “The Rave Mamas” On-Stage at EDC Las Vegas

You can rave at any age “the Rave Mamas” proved as they joined Armin Van Buuren on-stage at EDC.

As Armin van Buuren went to close out his set at the Electric Daisy Carnival festival, he brought out special guests April and Darlene (a.k.a “the Rave Mamas”). Completely unplanned, Buuren stated on Twitter that this was a “very spontaneous moment we setup just before I went on stage”, which resulted in a banger closeout for the Dutch DJ.

The two ladies have been raving for over 40 years and don’t continue to stop anytime soon. Through their experiences in many festivals, dance parties, and concerts, they told EDC they hope to “promote raving and electronic dance music to people who are older” because raving has no age limit.

There are stereotypes around rave culture that many people believe are just for individuals who are younger and would be inappropriate to do when you’re older. There is a double standard in society in how people are viewed in wanting to go to concerts for other genres of music v.s. more EDM-style music. If you were older and went to a country music concert or for a big pop star, people don’t really turn their heads as much and wonder why somebody older is there. But at an EDM festival, like EDC, people are shocked to know older individuals go to raves.

But gossip doesn’t stop these Rave Mamas from having the time of their lives. People ask them how they can go to these festivals with so many younger people, but they say that they are embraced by everybody with open arms because the young people “love us and they get us to the rail every time”.

In the tweet above, EDC made a video blog about April and Darlene and their inspiration behind raving at an older age. “Everybody at any age can come here and we’re all treated the same,” says the duo. At the end of the video, April and Darlene are taken for a surprise treat of meeting Armin van Buuren. He decides that he’s going to have them join him on stage where the three danced and raged.

Some music Buuren performed during his set was from his new 93-track album that came out last week, ‘ASOT 1121 – A State of Trance Episode 1121′. If Buuren can release an EDM album at 46 years old, then like these Rave Mamas say, “You are never too old to rave.”
