Alison Wonderland Was Told Getting Pregnant Would “Ruin” Her Career as a Musician

Australian DJ and producer Alison Wonderland recently shared her pregnancy with fiancé Ti to the world, and has expressed how it would affect her career.

Alison Wonderland has been showing off her baby bump at festivals across the globe in recent weeks. She first announced the arrival of “Baby Wonderland” in mid-March with a beautiful photo set, and really showed off the bump at Coachella as she performed as her Whyte Fang alias on the Gobi stage.

Although you’d normally catch Alison in a big t-shirt (maybe that’s how she successfully hid her pregnancy for all those months?), one of her outfits was a black crop top with a neon green “X” across her belly. She totally rocked it, as apparent by all of the peer and fan support in the comments!

This week, she posted another pregnancy photo set from Coachella with a heartfelt caption about her pregnancy, and what it means to be a woman working in the dance music industry. She wrote, “Pete and I took these photos backstage just before I played my show on Friday at Coachella.  I was once told by someone in the industry ‘I hope you don’t get pregnant…it will ruin your career’ I want to thank them. Those words made me even stronger.”

She continued, “Not only did I make a whole ass album for @thewhytefang but I toured, played shows and launched an entire new project during this time.I always wanted to be a mother and it was a really difficult journey for me to get to this point. In fact I never thought I would even get here! So I just wanna say you can do anything u put your mind to even if people say it’s impossible. It might be hard but you can do it.”

The comments were filled with an outpour of support from fellow artists such as Ghastly, Haliene, and Yellow Claw. Not to mention, all of the support from fans. One comment reads, “Thank you for all your hard work, and showing even though it’s tough as hell, you can try your hardest to continue living your best life while pregnant and with kids!”

There are not many women DJs in the EDM space, let alone pregnant women and mothers. Alison Wonderland is showing the world how powerful women truly are!

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
