Since 2015 she has dropped a slew of singles and a handful of EPs, truly distinguishing her musical style and presence. Subsequently, it’s no surprise she is exploring a different genre to broaden her creative expression.

On Friday, April, 21st Rezz revealed her latest endeavor taking inspiration from the 70s and 80s rock n roll subgenres punk and goth. “KICKIN OFF THE GOTH ERA IN THE BOLDEST WAY,” captioned her IG post in anticipation of the track. The reel showcased the artwork for her track, “BLUE IN THE FACE,” featuring Shadient and fknsyd. Without a doubt, the track is gaining the attention of many for her new direction in sound.

Moreover, fans and fellow EDM artists were stoked about the fresh track. Even our fave final boss, Ghastly, commented with his blessing, “Savage.” The exploration of the intertwining of goth, punk, or metal genres in EDM is interesting. One follower commented, “I was a metal fan first, before getting into this world of trippy electronic music.” There are overlapping sounds and elements that become complementary

With those music genres, the association of certain cinematic aspects, specifically with horror or gore movies. Rezz’s last album Nightmare On Rezz Street 2 Mixis a direct association with the 80s cult classic horror film, Nightmare on Elm Street. Not to mention, the horror aspect is displayed in the artwork for the track: a twisted clown swaying back and forth with nonexistent pupils.

The artist Michael Marling aka Viletree has a plethora of dark explorative pieces. Furthermore, the clown representation is reflective of the American sludge metal band, Acid Bath. The Louisiana-born band utilized the painting by serial killer John Wayne Gacy of Pogo the Clown on their freshman album When The Kite Strings Pop. The artwork chosen solidifies the frequency of the music, bravo Rezz.

The two-minute, 46-second song starts slowly with a repetitious tempo leading into the mesmerizing, head-bopping trance. The track slowly bleeds into raspy hypnotic vocals creating a dark and tantalizing ambiance. The fusing of these elements creates a solid fire track. We can’t wait till Rezz unveils the next single to this ominous new EP.
