EDC Vegas Faces Fan Backlash for Booking 12th Planet on 2023 Lineup

Despite the previous sexual abuse allegations made against 12th Planet in the past, his name continues to appear on festival lineups including EDC Las Vegas.

Insomniac has unveiled a star-studded lineup for the 30th EDC Las Vegas, featuring over 200 artists such as David Guetta, Armin Van Buren, Kaytranada, Chris Lake, James Hype, and many more. The list also boasts special back-to-back sets from top acts such as Zeds Dead and Chase & Status, Wax Motif and Malaa, and Excision and Dion Timmer.

However, some members of the electronic music community have expressed criticism of 12th Planet‘s inclusion in the lineup. Continuously booked on Insomniac lineups, including this one, is 12th Planet which raised some backlash from the electronic community online. One Twitter user posts, “let’s all bring tomatoes and filled water bottles to throw at 12th planet’s set @ edc” and another tweeted, “the lineup needed last minutes adjustments and they STILL added 12th Planet LMAO”.

On the flip side, there are supporters who believe his accusations we’re disproven and his music career should live on. One person asked, “Wasn’t 12th planet’s accuser lying? 🌚 idk how y’all still on that lol” and another commented, “12th Planet has been in the scene longer than any of them and no one came out saying they were a victim too. Crazy how a known kind and compassionate dj like 12th Planet would all of a sudden decide to commit SA once. I don’t buy it.”

In December 2021, a photographer named Grim accused 12th Planet, along with two other DJs, Gammer and Trampa, of sexual assault. The accusations caused a stir in the EDM community, and 12th Planet was pulled from at least one lineup as a result.

However, the accusations against 12th Planet were denied by the producer, and he was able to make a comeback to the festival scene. In December 2022, an anonymous Twitter user posted an image of what appeared to be a rape charge against 12th Planet from 2007 that was dismissed by the court. Despite these allegations, 12th Planet’s music career has survived and has even begun releasing music again for the first time since 2021.

Back on December 2, 2021, a photographer that goes by Grim made a post on social media about three separate sexual assault incidents involving three different DJs: 12th Planet, Gammer, and Trampa. Although he initially went silent across social channels and got pulled from at least one lineup, roughly two months later, 12th Planet issued a statement denying the rape allegations Grim made against him. Not long after, he started playing festivals again.

Despite the controversy, EDC Las Vegas remains one of the most highly anticipated festivals of the year, and fans are eager to see their favorite artists take the stage. In addition to EDC, 12th Planet has also been booked for several other upcoming festivals, including Forbidden Kingdom and Tomorrowland. It remains to be seen how the controversy surrounding his past allegations will impact his career going forward.
