Diplo Moved Back to the Swamps of Florida and Learned Guitar in Six Months for New Country Album

Diplo is going back to his roots with his new country album called “Thomas Wesley: Chapter 2 – Swamp Savant” releasing April 28th. 

Diplo is turning in his bucket hats and turn tables in replacement for something a little different. Many of us know Diplo for his popular radio hits like “Where Are U Now” and “Lean On”. But, with his latest release, we will be getting something very different from the prevalent producer. So, grab your cowboy boots and straw hats because Diplo is going country! He is releasing a new album under his country alias, Thomas Wesley, titled “Thomas Wesley: Chapter 2 – Swamp Savant”. 

So, why decide to become a country star when you are one of the most renowned DJs in the world? Diplo explains in his latest Instagram post exactly the answer to that question. He notes “I reflected on my whole life, career, and connection with this (country) music. There was a lot, but it all started in the swamps I was raised in.” So, it seems as though this new project is a beautiful homage to Diplo’s life before all the fame. When he was just a simple boy in the countryside. 

As noted prior, Diplo’s inspiration for his new country album “Thomas Wesley: Chapter 2 – Swamp Savant” came from his roots. So, what better way to get in touch with those roots again than traveling back there? He claims he spent six months at his father’s house back in Florida. While he was there he really got into the country spirit. He taught himself how to play the guitar. Then,  he became one with nature. Then lastly, he got down and dirty working with his father on a boat during shrimp season. These wholesome experiences assisted Diplo with connecting to his roots. This ultimately led him to find inspiration from his surroundings and aid in the creation of his Thomas Wesley album.

Besides living in the countryside, Diplo also used his normal life to reflect on what he needed to do to make this album a reality. He continues in his post by stating the following “I spent two years going to Stagecoach undercover as an EDM DJ to figure out what people were into. I tried on a lot of cowboy hats and rode a lot of motorcycles and horses.” 

“Thomas Wesley: Chapter 2 – Swamp Savant” will surely be something different for fans. But, it also shows a  testament to Diplo’s dedication to his craft. Also, his willingness to take risks and try something new. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the greatest things in life come from taking chances and stepping outside of our comfort zones.
