The queen of EDM had an announcement and it was a big one. Alison Wonderland took to Instagram earlier this week to dish on the details regarding a forthcoming project. Unlike many of her prior projects, this one was unique in nature with a philanthropic, big-girl twist, perhaps even entrepreneurial… The project? None other than her very own record label.

Alison shared via a post, “I am starting a record label.” Mic drop – yes, she said what she said. “[I’ve] been working on this for a while and my entire goal is to give power and freedom back to the artist. More details [to come] this week…” Alison also commented on the post, “Go follow @fmurecords,” so naturally, the page was explored.

Upon surfing the official Instagram of Alison’s new label, titled “FMU Records,” yet another announcement awaited, bread crumbs on the cutest scavenger hunt for clues, content, and announcements. Alison proudly shared via a Billboard interview the identities of her first-ever signees, Argentinian producer Dabow and South African artist Jon Casey. Furthermore, she shared that FMU’s first-ever track was set to drop on Thursday, December 8th. The article described the track as a “play-it-loud tapestry of percussion with trap bass and wavy synths [that served] as a mood setter for FMU.”

When clicking the link to FMU’s website, the content was enigmatic. The emboldened word “demo” floated in space, sprawled across the screen. Alison was, and is, clearly talent-scouting, cutting straight to the chase. Other than the opportunity to submit content to the new label, the site looked rudimentary, the bare bones of the magic to come.

In terms of the record label’s style, Alison shared with Billboard, “Dark Electronic music is really what comes to mind; it’s what I gravitate towards and with this label, I’m really going to be able to showcase that. I used to run warehouse parties, and I really find the dark, minimalistic vibe very appealing.”

The first track release on the label is from artists Jon Casey and Dabow, called “I Surrender.” The single embodies both trap and bass elements with the simplicity that Alison seems to be striving for.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
