Lucii Slams “Opener” DJ for Claiming Her Success is Due to Gender

Orlando based DJ Producer Lucii speaks up against “opener” DJ who attributed her success to her gender in a stereotypical encounter.

The narrative around female producers in the electronic dance music scene has been growing lately. This time, Orlando based DJ producer, Emily Rose, better known as Lucii, has taken to social media to share her experience after an “opener” DJ has attributed her success to a gender bias.

Just this week, Lucii shared an Instagram reel of her casually vibing with the caption “just got done playing my set, chillin in the green room. the dj opener walks in, you know ur only after me bc your a girl right”. While she did not mention who the “opener” DJ was, the fans were quick to take to her side with an outpouring of support and declaration of their admiration for the “goddess DJ”.

Known for her psychedelic and heavy bass production, Lucii has been one of the most exceptional female DJs that is charting a solid career for herself. As a young artist, she has found a way to craft her signature electrifying dance music style that is bold enough to penetrate the very core of any raver. She embodies an energy that is unapologetically herself and continues to flex her innate ability to control the dancefloor of any set that she plays.

As more female artists continues to battle gender equality in the music industry, so much more still needs to be done to combat discrimination and lift women in the industry for visibility. Especially within the dance and electronic music community, where the scene is still largely dominated by men, it is ever more important for female artists to speak up and break and stereotypes that they face in their career.

Coming off the back of her live performance at Hangout Festival, Lucii is set to dominate the year ahead by gracing the stage of Moonwalk Festival, Beyond Wonderland, Escapade Music Festival and more. Stay tuned for more from the empowered artist as we continue to support women working in the music industry.
