Fans Troll Oliver Tree For Calling Ultra “EDC” on Stage

Oliver Tree’s highly sought-after Ultra Music Festival performance wound up entertaining crowds with more than just music.

Oliver Tree’s music makes you feel like you’re driving down the beach with your windows open and without a care in the world. The artist skyrocketed to fame in 2017 with his first viral track, “When I’m Down”. And then again in 2021, the California-based singer and songwriter got his second break with the hit single, “Life Goes On”, which became an overnight Tik Tok sensation.

Outside of incredible talent in the studio, Oliver Tree is known for his eccentric stage appearance. Crazy outfits, unconventional dance moves, and bizarre outbursts are what a patron of an Oliver Tree show might come to expect.

Oliver surely did not shy away from his brand during his Sunday evening Ultra Music Festival performance in Miami. Showing up fashionably late in his signature costume, blonde wig and all, Oliver addressed the crowd as “EDC”. At first, it seemed like a slip-up, but after several “EDC” iterations, it was clear the artist was trolling the crowd.

However, fans trolled him right back on Twitter. One tweet reads, “oliver tree has called ultra “EDC” 5 times already and his set just started gtg.” Another tweet says, “OLIVER TREE CALLED THE CROWD EDC NOT ONCE OR TWICE BUT THREE TIMES….bro it’s Ultra.”

In the midst of his performance, Oliver Tree’s crowd thinned out as Seven Lions took a neighboring stage. Oliver’s reaction? A “fuck dubstep” chant, which wasn’t received well by some fans. One tweet reads, “not oliver tree acting big pussy at ultra and chanting fuck dubstep because everyone left his set.”

Oliver Tree might have some unpopular opinions, but he does a great job of embodying the identity of a musician and a meme at the same time. And if his goal was to get a rise out of the crowd, mission accomplished.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
